2008 Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival One of the Best Ever!
The 2008 Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival is now history and what a great festival it was.
With perfect weather, great music, huge crowds, delicious food, fantastic folklife activities and displays, a bountiful breakfast, a successful bicycle and street vault event, tennis tournament, dunking booth, inflatable amusements for the kids, and much more, Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival offered something for everyone!
Lots of folks stopped by to see Kirk Brandenberger who was back to help EmCee the festival. Kirk said it was sure good to be back in Kentucky - sometimes you don't know what you have till it's gone.
The Delta Queen arrived at the Henderson Riverfront early Saturday morning, and it was a beautiful site. The passengers who got off the big paddlewheel riverboat for a Henderson visit were delighted to find an enormous festival awaiting them.
Bluegrass in the Park wants to thank the thousands of festival goers who came out to enjoy the day and the music and events. We also want to thank our small army of volunteers - without them, the festival simply could not have happened.
Special thanks, too, to all the businesses and individuals who donated money or in-kind support. They have helped to keep the festival free for 23 years!
Our committee will be meeting soon to wrap up this year's festival and begin planning for the next. We had many first time attendees from right around our area who could not believe they had let the first 22 festivals slip by! Our bet is that they won't miss another.
Just a reminder. You can still visit the Kentucky Luthier's Exhibit at the Henderson County Public Library, 100 South Main Street, through September 2. It is a wonderful exhibit that highlights the making and repair of stringed instruments by incredibly talented Kentucky craftsmen. The exhibit is open all day during normal library hours Monday - Sunday.
